Photography

While attending Grand Valley State University, I explored different mediums of storytelling, one being through photography. The power of photography is capturing a moment in time to convey or evoke emotions. Below is my exploration of contemporary photography or “current photography” that examines relevant societal, cultural, political issues in a non-traditional execution.

The image above displays my contemporary photo gallery. An aspect of contemporary photography is photo arrangement to depict intended emotions and invite critical thinking.

Title: Absent Treasure

I don’t remember my childhood. Growing up with divorced parents, enduring childhood traumas, and suffering multiple head concussions, my memory seems to have faded away. I try to recall them, though sometimes I don’t want to remember. It would be easier to pretend to remember than to relive the trauma. Another part of me yearns for the happy memories to mask the bad, but the good ones seem to be buried down. Investigating themes of memory and childhood innocence has helped me remember, for better or worse. I sought to create images that evoke nostalgia through objects, figures, and situations representing stereotypical childhood emotions.
